Quote Of The Day

"Happiness, it seems to me, consists of two things: first, in being where you belong, and second - and best - in comfortably going through everyday life, that is, having had a good night's sleep and not being hurt by new shoes." - Theodor Fontane

"You need adversity to know the truth...To know good, you should know what bad is. This is life." - Alice Bailey.

Now look back to this time last year.

What problems where you facing then?

What was the high point of 2011?

What was the low point of 2011?

Life flows, you need the lows to appreciate the highs. The problem you had this time last year has been solved and you have moved on.

Thought of the day 03/01/2012

"If you are able to state a problem, it can be solved." - Edwin H. Land.

Often when a client comes to see me, the problem they describe is only a symptom of the real problem. Often we will start the consultation talking about smoking, weight control or a phobia and end the session talking about a much deeper emotional problem. When I help the client remove the emotion on this problem lots of other problems vanish.
So do you really understand the issue you are dealing with? Can you explain it to others? When you can make others understand the problem you will probably find that you understand it and it will be less of a problem.

Thought of the day 04/01/2012

"The Interstate highway system has made it possible to go from sea to shining sea without seeing anything." - Charles Kuralt.

Today is World Braille Day

Louis Braille's farther was a leather worker and maker of horse tack. When Louis Braille was three he was playing in his farthers workshop. He was trying to make a hole in a pice of leather with an awl. The awl sliped and struck Louis in one eye.  The wound became infected and over the next few weeks Louis slowly lost the sight in both eyes.

In the early 1800 Napoleon demanded as system that would allow  soldiers to communicate silently in the dark. In 1821 Charles Barbier created a system of night writing. However the system of over complicated and rejected. Barbier then took his system to National Institute for the Blind in Paris where he met Louis Braille.

Braille redeveloped the system. He found the human finger could not cope with the twelve dots of the Barbier system so he reduced it to a six dot system.
The Barbier sytem also repesented sounds and not letters. Braille changed the system to repersent Althbetic letters.

So today open your eyes a look at the world around you.

What can you make simpler today?

What can you see today that you have been missing?

Thought of the day 05/01/2012

"Happiness comes when we test our skills towards some meaningful purpose." - John Stossel.

If I just gave you everything you ever wanted you would soon grow bored of it all. Sometimes it's the effort in getting something that makes it worthwhile. So when you look back at your life you will probably find you are happiest when life was a little bit of an effort.

Thought of the day 06/01/2012

"One's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions." - Oliver Wendell Holmes.

In the early 1950's it seemed impossible that any one would run a mile in under four minutes. It seemed an impossible barrier. Scientists even suggested a persons lungs would explode if they ran that fast. Then in May 1954 Roger Bannister achieved the impossible. Within two months both first a second places in the mile went to people running sub four minutes. In 1955 more and more people ran sub four-minute miles.

As soon as you accept a new idea you and the world changes and it cannot be changed back.

Thought of the day 07/01/2012

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live." - Flora Whittemore.

Back in the 1980's I got my first Rubik Cube. At first it seemed impossible. What ever you did to one part of the cube negatively affected another part of the cube. Slowly I started to find the pattern of moves that only effected a small number of squares. Each day we have billions of options. We normally stick to the pattern of moves that got good results yesterday. However if we play a little we will find new patterns some will bring use less then our current behaviour. However, other patterns of behaviour will bring you more then you have ever dreamed of.

Thought of the day 08/01/2012

"My experience has shown me that the people who are exceptionally good in business aren't so because of what they know but because of their insatiable need to know more." - Michael Gerber.

Thought of the day 09/01/2012

"Indulge your imagination in every possible flight." - Jane Austin.

Every book, every piece of music and every man made object around you was once a dream. The dreamer allowed their imagination to run free, they saw the future; they then took action and made the future happen. So were will your imagination take you now.

Thought of the day 10/01/2012

"Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit." - Conrad Hilton.

In 1968 Donald Trump join his families real-estate business.
Between 1968 and 1989 Donald developed the business by renovating the Commodore Hotel and Trump Tower. He created the Grand Hyatt. He then purchased the Eastern Shuttle routes, and Atlantic City casino business, including acquiring the Taj Mahal Casino.

By 1989, the effects of the recession left Trump unable to meet loan payments and in 1991 the business filed for bankruptcy.

Over the past twenty years Trump has rebuilt his business.
So one of the most successful business men in the USA has tasted both success and defeat but he continues to take action and from defeat he has once more become successful.

Thought of the day 11/01/2012

"The magic formula that successful businesses have discovered is to treat customers like guests and employees like people." - Thomas J Peters.

How many times have you left the employ of a company because you were treated like a machine?

How many times have you moved your custom to another company because your old supplier treated you like a number?

If you don't like being treated in certain way then do not treat other people in that way. If you treat people like you would like to be treated then you will be successful.

Thought of the day 12/01/2012

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." - Theodore Roosevelt.

Wherever you ended yesterday and whatever tools you had then is where you have to start today from. All one can ask is that you do your best to move forward. Yes it would be nice to be closer to your goal! Yes it would be easier if you had more suitable tools. However, You are where you are and all you can do is take action and move forward. Once you are moving you will be surprised at how soon the right tools come your way and how quickly you get to your goals.

Thought of the day 13/01/2012

"The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem." - Theodore Rubin.

Thought of the day 14/01/2012

"A house without books is like a room without windows." - Horace Mann.

Thought of the day 15/01/2012

"Age is just a number. It's totally irrelevant unless, of course, you happen to be a bottle of wine." - Joan Collins.

Thought of the day 16/01/2012

"To think is easy. To act is difficult. To act as one thinks is the most difficult." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.

To act, as you think is harder then it seems. Solomon Asch looked at this. The Asch's conformity experiments asked five people a very simple question (They were shown a line (The control line) and then four other lines and asked which of the fours lines were the same length as the control line). The first four people were in on the experiment and all gave the same wrong answer. Would the fifth person go along with the crowd or would they stand out by giving the right answer. He found that 32% would conform straight away (On the first question). He also found that nearly 70% would conform at some point during the experiment.

"Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." - Plato.

Thought of the day 18/01/2012

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." - Henry Ford.

Whenever we learn something we change a little. Our view of the world is changed. It is this change that keeps us young. As soon as will stop changing we become old.

Thought of the day 19/01/2012

"Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts." - Albert Einstein.

This week started with blue Monday. It is the time of the year when things look darker then they are. It is now time to dream big dreams. To focus on what you want and do the little things that will start to bring the dream closer

Thought of the day 20/01/2012

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Emerson.

Some people look up at Mount Everest and see an impossible object to climb and others see an adventure. How you view the world will determine what is possible.

Thought of the day 21/01/2012

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." - Robert Louis Stevenson.

What good deed did you do yesterday? It is this deed that will provide the next harvest. So what are you planting for your future. Your hard work and good deeds will pay off in the future so take action and do good deeds.

Thought of the day 22/01/2012

"Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then we shall find the way." - Abraham Lincoln.

Thought of the day 23/01/2012

"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." - Confucius

Today is the Chinese New Year 4710
This is the first day in the Year of the Dragon

People born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon are free spirited creatures who believe that rules and regulations are for other people. Naturally confident and very fearless, they are usually very successful.

However, due to their extrovertness and enthusiasm, they can sometimes end up feeling tired and unfulfilled.

Always one to lend a helping hand to those who need it, a Dragon's pride can mean that they are often unwilling to ask for or accept help from others.

Thought of the day 25/01/2012

"You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind." - Anonymous.

Take action! A thousand mile march starts with a single step. The task may seem impossible but it is the smallest of actions that turn the impossible into the possible. A number of seemingly small steps create the momentum needed to complete the most challenging of tasks.

Thought of the day 26/01/2012

"If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less-than-excellent work." - Thomas J Watson.

You determine the quality of your work. If you want to do excellent work then stop accepting less then excellent work. Work to improve what you do. May your next piece of work be better then your last piece of work.

Thought of the day 27/01/2012

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
-
Anne Frank

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day

On the 27th January 1945 of Soviet Union soldiers liberated the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

An estimated six million Jews were murdered (two-thirds of all Jews living in Europe)

An estimation five million Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the disabled people were murdered

Thought of the day 28/01/2012

"Tell a person they are brave and you help them become so." - Thomas Carlyle.

We are what we believe we are. Tell anyone the same thing enough times and they will start to believe it. If you want to be surrounded by good people I would suggest you start telling the people that are already around you that they are good. The person to tell that to most is yourself

Thought of the day 29/01/2012

"A man's worst enemy can't wish him what he thinks up for himself." - Yiddish Proverb.

Thought of the day 30/01/2012

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Spain. The key rout is from St. Jean-Pied-du-Port to Santiago. This route is 780 km. (nearly 500 miles). Like any other Pilgrimage the Pilgrim starts with a backpack full of everything they think they need. On day two or three with the back pack cutting into their shoulders and hurting with every step the pilgrim re-evaluates what they really needs to carry with them. So they dump every thing they do not need. Along the way they then dump all the emotional baggage they are carrying.
What are you carrying that you no longer need?

When are you going to let it go?

Thought of the day 31/01/2012

"The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want." - Ben Stein

So the first month of 2012 is already over. Only eleven months left. Do you know where you are going this year or are you still trying to work it out. Maybe it's time to decide what you want out of 2012.
