"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened." - Billy Graham
"For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing." - Simon Wiesenthal. If one person stands up to be counted they will soon be joined by others.

"If you're going through hell, keep going." - Sir Winston Churchill
And you might get out before the devil event knows you're there. When life is hard it is tempting to give up. However that is the time you need to dig deep and find the strength to keep going. For it is at these times you find the real you and you find out how much you can really do.

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein
As we understand more about quantum mechanics more and more people are questioning what reality is. More and more people are finding that reality is what we expect to find. If you expect life to be hard then it will be. If you expect your boss to be incompetent then they will be. So those that expect to enjoy life find life is enjoyable.
My brother's blog http://scienceinavan.blogspot.com/2011/02/hole-in-hand.html will get you questioning how solid your own hand is.

"The only man who makes no mistakes is the man who never does anything. Do not be afraid to make mistakes providing you do not make the same one twice." -Theodore Roosevelt
The world and his wife have said this. I have a number of versions of it. Lost of people have said it because it is important and true. When you were a baby how many times did you fall down before you could walk? You did a hundred things that were not working before you did the thing we call walking. Back then you looked at life as a game and making mistakes was just part of the game. However now you view mistakes and failure. If that younger you had the same beliefs you would not be walking now. So I would go back to the old beliefs that worked for learning to walk. I.e. if it does not work try it another way until it works.

"Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven't half the strength you think they have." -Norman Vincent Peale
A few days ago I posted "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein. Your problems and obstacles are part of your reality. Your reality is an illusion so your problems are an illusion. A little bit like the set of the original Star Trek; if you hit it hard enough it will wobble.

"Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another." - John Dewey
Earlier this week I talked about learning to walk. This is a great example for the idea of goals chaining together. The first goal is walking is sitting up. When you achieve that you want to stand up, from standing you want to walk. Once walking you want to run. You need a goal as you need something to work for but once you have it you need to set the next goal. The only caveat I will add is you need to enjoy what you have and where you are. When you reach a goal enjoy it.

"I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." - Maya Angelou
You will meet challenges in you life. Some of those challenges will change you. They will make you question what you believe. The people that succeed in life have a set of positive beliefs "I am good at what I do". "I can make positive change to my life" Less successful people have a number of negative beliefs. The trick is once you have faced a challenge to have more positive beliefs and less negative beliefs then when you started. However it is easy to take negative beliefs out of negative experiences

"It is better to live rich than to die rich." - Samuel Johnson
How much is something really worth?
What is the real cost of something?
Now I have a system that will mean you will earn a million pounds in the next year?! Interested? The system is such you will have to work twenty hours a day seven days a week for the next year. Everyone that have used the system has earned a million pound but their relationship with their partner and children have all broken down and are irretrievable and their health has suffered. Are you still interested?
I have a friend who wants to spend as much time as possible for the next year in the wilderness of North America. While she is in the UK she is willing to take any job she can to save money to get back to America. At the end of the process she will only have the clothes she carries with her. She will not have a car or a house or savings in the bank. She was worried this is not the normal thing to do. So we looked at what she would have at the end of the process. A journal full of memories, a photo album full of amazing photos. Already she has seen the northern lights, seen wild wolves and stood in the middle of nowhere and looked up at the moon and cried "Whoop Whoop". I may even consider trading in my car for those memories

"Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it's amazing what they can accomplish." - Sam Walton
A person who believes they can do anything will move mountains. So if you help your team believe in themselves then they will move mountains for your business. So you could put your team down and rule with an iron fist. They will become dependent on you, they will be less then they currently are and your business will become less then it currently is. Or you could inspire them to be more then they think they are. In return your business will become more than it is.

"When you feel good about yourself, others will feel good about you, too." - Jake Steinfeld
You are the change you want to see in the world. If you view yourself as successful others will view you as successful. Doubt yourself and others will doubt you.

"How often in life it is a truth that we have no time for our friends but all the time in the world for our enemies." - Leon Uris
Friends are a precious commodity. The finest of jewels. Why do we so often overlook them and mistreat them?

"Sometimes our flame goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being." - Albert Schweitzer
I think we have all had a time when we come in from work and we feel completely dead. We have the weight of the world on our shoulders. Then someone asks us to go out. It's the last thing we want to do but we do it anyway. Then just a few hours later we come back feeling better then we have in a long long time. When we are with true friends it is hard not to feel up lifted. True Love, the kind found with true friendship has a life and magic all of it's own. To be with another human who truly loves us is to be carried and revitalised by them.

"Rise above the storm and you will find the sunshine." - Mario Fernandez
The sunshine is always there. The sun has been burning for billions of years and will continue to burn for billions more. Occasionally a cloud gets in the way and we cannot see the sun. It does not mean the sun is not there it just means we cannot see the sun. In life there to is a sun that burns constantly. It is the bright future we are all heading for. But some days we loss sight of it due to the clouds of doubt and misfortune. However these clouds are soon blown away by the winds courage and self-belief.

"The only limits are, as always, those of vision." - James Broughton
Look around you for a few moments. What do you already have in your life? How rich are you already (How much is your health worth? How much are family and friends worth?). Now close your eyes. Has it all gone? Are you worth less because you can no longer see what you have? Now open your eyes again imagine this is the first time you have ever looked at the world. Look at it closely. Look at it as a child does. What do you now see that you have never seen before?

"Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open." - Thomas Dewar
Something new is discovered almost everyday. Our understanding of the world is constantly changing. What was true yesterday may not be true today. So are you going to judge the world on how you believe it to be? Or are you going to judge it on how it is. Be open to new ideas.

"Never lose a chance of saying a kind word." - William Makepeace Thackeray
To be hated by someone is very hurtful and a hard thing to manage. However to hate someone comes at a much greater cost. To hate someone you must hate something within you. Time to spread some kindness to others and most importantly to yourself.

"What I know is, is that if you do work that you love, and the work fulfils you, the rest will come." - Oprah Winfrey
What is your measure of wealth? Is it money or is it the smile on your face and the love in your heart. A job will give you money but it will steal the smile from your face, the love from your heart and the very assents of your soul. A vocations or passion will bring much more then a financial reward.

"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Does it work? Does it complete the task in the time allowed? If the answer is yes then the method is good enough? A similar thing can be said about the truth "There is your side to the story, my side to the story and the truth"

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." - Mohandas Gandhi
So are you ready to be strong today? Who or what will you forgive today?
May be its time to forgive yourself as this is the hardest thing to do.

"We probably wouldn't worry about what other people think of us if we could know how seldom they do." - Olin Miller
How much time do you spend thinking about your job and or the things you have to do each day?
How much time do you spend thinking about loved ones each day?
How much time is left to think badly of others?
You probably have very little time to think badly of others. So why do you think others have so much time to think badly of you?

"Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again." - Og Mandino
Go softly into this world and shine the light of love and kindness all around. For a world full of love and kindness is a most wonderful place to be.

"Whoever wants to reach a distant goal must take small steps." - Saul Bellow
You have to take the small steps. These small steps soon mount up to many miles and they create a momentum all of there own. It is this momentum that creates the magic that brings your goals to you faster then you every imagines

"If you want to test your memory, try to recall what you were worrying about one year ago today." - Rotarian
So what was you biggest problem this time last year?
Will you remember what you are worrying about today in a year's time?
Most, if not all, problems and worries are soon solved. Trust that the answer is only just around the corner and stop worrying. You won't be worried about them in a year's time.

"Today is only one day in all the days that will ever be. But what will happen in all the other days that ever come can depend on what you do today." - Ernest Hemingway
We start tomorrow from where we end up today. So if you make progress today then that is good and you are in a good place to start tomorrow from. If today has been less then perfect then do not loose heart. Tomorrow is another day. You may be surprised at how much you can achieve tomorrow
