Quote Of The Day

"Happiness, it seems to me, consists of two things: first, in being where you belong, and second - and best - in comfortably going through everyday life, that is, having had a good night's sleep and not being hurt by new shoes." - Theodor Fontane

 September's Thought of the Day

Thought of the day 12/09/2011

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." - Michael Jordan

So the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However that may not be the quickest way to your goal. You may have to work around a few obstacles to achieve your goal. The important thing is not to give up at the first obstacle. Take a new route and find a way around it.

Thought of the day 13/09/2011

"Do not read, as children do, to amuse yourself, or like the ambitious, for the purpose of instruction. No, read in order to live." - Gustave Flaubert

Language is one of the greatest things we have. Enjoy it! Celebrate it! Use it wisely and be kind with your word.

Thought of the day 14/09/2011

"To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe." -
Marilyn Vos Savant

Some of the wisest people I know have not gone to university. Learning is important! Books and universities are valuable. However, it is important to take your head out of a book every once in awhile and look at the real world. How does what you learn apply to the real world. Is it still relevant? Has the world moved on? Is there a more important message being sent to you in the real word?

Thought of the day 15/09/2011

"In times of change the learners will inherit the earth, while the knowers will find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." - Eric Hoffer

The world is ever changing so you have to change with it. If you rest on your laurels you will be left behind. If you constantly observe the world and evaluate your learning you will keep pace with the changes.

Thought of the day 16/09/2011

"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm." -
Sir Winston Churchill

Every successful person has experienced failure. The difference is that successful people learn what they can from failure and then try again.

Thought of the day 17/09/2011

"You're born an original. Don't die a copy." - John Mason

You are unique! Celebrate that uniqueness! Dare to be different

Thought of the day 18/09/2011

"Hope is a waking dream." - Aristotle

Thought of the day 19/09/2011

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly." - Siddhârtha Gautama

Live in the now! Yes you need a goal and you should be working towards it. However, now is where the fun is. Be thankful for what you already have. Enjoy what is happening now. You are surrounded by opportunities. Some of them lead to your goal. Some of them lead to possibilities you never dreamed of. Setting goals lead you into a positive future. Living in the now means you can enjoy each day and take the opportunities that will deliver more then your goal.

Thought of the day 20/09/2011

"The man who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure thing boat never gets far from shore." - Dale Carnegie

The person who has most is normally the person who risked most. You can live today as you did yesterday and live in the knowledge that there will be few surprises and life will be safe and predictable. Or you can take that risk. Yes you may taste failure! However you may taste success. You may get your biggest goal and your deepest desire.

Thought of the day 21/09/2011

"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought." - Alert von Szent Gyorgyi

Eratosthenes, Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking all saw what we all see everyday but they asked a new question or saw something new. Eratosthenes saw that a stick in the ground cast a shadow. However he then worked out that by measuring the length of the shadow of two sticks the same size placed in two different places he could calculate the circumference of the Earth. So in around 220 BC Eratosthenes calculated the circumference of the Earth as 25,000 miles. Today we know the circumference of the Earth is 24,902 miles.

How many people saw things fall to earth before Sir Isaac Newton asked why?

How many people had sat on a train thinking they were moving backwards because the train next to them moved forward before Stephen Hawking made his leap in the understanding of black holes and the big bang?

Thought of the day 22/09/2011

"Let no man pull you low enough to hate him." - Martin Luther King Jr.

I have posted the William Shakespeare quote of "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none" before. To hate someone comes at a cost. A small part of you becomes lost, consumed by hatred. The result is that there is a little less of you to love and live life to the full.

Thought of the day 23/09/2011

"We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated." - Maya Angelou

What is failure and when does it happen? When people come and see me to stop smoking this comes up a lot. Before coming to see me they smoked twenty cigarettes a day. After seeing me they go seven days without smoking then have one cigarette. Have they failed of have they succeeded in cutting down from one hundred and forty cigarettes a week to one cigarette? You have only failed when you say you have failed. Until then it's work in progress.

Thought of the day 24/09/2011

"At any given point of time, you are exactly what you wanted to be." -
Vinny Nayak

Enjoy it! All your conscious and unconscious decisions have brought you to this point. If it is not where you want to be then you need to set a new goal. A positive goal and start doing the little things that will bring it closer. The life you want is just a dream away. If you take small steps and walk with out fear or doubt you will be where you want to be before you know it.

Thought of the day 25/09/2011

"Not to invent yourself is to be false. To follow preordained rules is a profound betrayal of what it means to be human." - David Starkey

Thought of the day 26/09/2011

"Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well." - Dwight D Eisenhower

We've all had that bad boss who. blames us when it went wrong and takes the credit for our work. So yes you could copy them when you are in charge or you can be the good boss. Be the leader that you want to be led by.

Thought of the day 27/09/2011

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

Close your eyes. Remember a time when you were really happy. See what you saw, hear what you heard and feel what you felt. Really relive the moment as if it was happening now. Feeling happy. So make your mind up and feel happy for as much of the day you can.

Thought of the day 28/09/2011

"For every disciplined effort there is a multiple reward." - Jim Rohn

That serendipitous moment or lucky break does not actually exist. Most luck comes about by your actions. You did a small thing weeks ago that started a chain reaction. So what seemed like a lucky break was really a reward for a small action you took. So start taking action and the magic will follow shortly.

Thought of the day 29/09/2011

"The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am." - Denis Waitley

What is the sound track to your life? We all have self-talk going on in our heads most of the time. That little voice! in the back of our heads. Now is that voice an evil voice that is dragging you down or is it a friendly positive voice that is motivating you?
Now the trick is to hear it and then realize it's your voice playing your beliefs. So if it's negative then tell yourself "to shut the fuck up" . Then set about changing your beliefs, then go and party and get the life you want.

Thought of the day 30/09/2011

"A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that's unlocked and opens inwards; as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push." - Ludwig Wittgenstein

Be flexible! Just because the first thing you have tried has not work does not mean it is impossible. Try it a different way.
